TL;DR: „Manus AI is impressively autonomous – but not an autopilot. Great for research and prototyping, but for business-critical processes you still need human oversight."

    — Till Freitag

Update March 2026: Manus has evolved far beyond a research agent. The new Web App Builder creates full websites and apps – with built-in database, Stripe, and SEO. Plus there's now a desktop app with local access. Full analysis: Meta Enters Vibe Coding →

    What Is Manus AI?

Manus AI is an autonomous AI agent that actually executes tasks – not just answers questions. While ChatGPT waits for your next prompt, Manus independently plans multiple steps, browses the web, writes code, analyzes data, and delivers finished results.

The name says it all: "Manus" is Latin for "hand." And that's exactly the promise – an AI that does the work, not just talks about it.

    The Quick Facts

    • Founded: 2024 in China (Butterfly Effect / Monica.im)
    • Acquired: Late 2025 by Meta for an estimated $2 billion
    • Available via: Web app (manus.im), Telegram, WhatsApp, LINE, Slack
    • Pricing: Credit-based (starting at $0 with 300 daily credits)

What Manus AI Can Do – Core Features

    1. Autonomous Task Execution

The key differentiator: You give a goal, Manus handles the rest. The agent breaks complex tasks into subtasks, executes them sequentially, and delivers finished results – including files, summaries, or even deployed prototypes.

Example: "Research the top 10 CRM tools for startups in the DACH region, compare pricing and features, and create a comparison table as Excel."

Manus independently opens browser tabs, searches websites, extracts data, structures it, and delivers the finished file.

    2. Real-Time Web Browsing

Unlike many LLMs, Manus works with live web data. The agent can:

    • Open and navigate websites
    • Fill out forms
    • Aggregate information from multiple sources
    • Create screenshots and documentation

    3. Write & Execute Code

Manus doesn't just write code – it runs it too. In a sandbox environment, the agent can:

    • Create and test Python scripts
    • Process and visualize data
    • Prototype simple web apps
    • Call APIs and process results

    4. Data Analysis

Upload a CSV, ask a question, done. Manus analyzes datasets, creates charts, and delivers insights – without writing a single line of code.

    5. Multi-Platform Access

    You can reach Manus via:

    • Web app (manus.im) – the full agent mode
    • Telegram & WhatsApp – quick tasks via chat
    • Slack – integration into existing workflows
    • LINE – especially popular in Asia

    Pricing: The Credit System Explained

Manus uses a credit-based pricing model. Every action consumes credits – and complex tasks burn through them faster than you'd expect.

Plan Price/Month Credits Daily Refresh Credits Concurrent Tasks
    Free $0 300/day 300 5
    Standard $20 4,000 300 20
    Customizable $40 8,000 300 20
    Extended $200 40,000 300 20

Watch out: A complex research task can consume 500–900 credits. With the free plan, you'll get through one demanding task per day at most.

    Hands-On Test: Where Manus Shines

    ✅ Deep Research

Manus is an excellent researcher. The combination of web browsing, data extraction, and structured presentation makes complex research significantly faster than manual Googling.

Our test: Market analysis of project management tools in the DACH region. Manus delivered an 8-page analysis with price comparison, feature matrix, and source references in ~15 minutes.

    ✅ Prototyping & Code

For quick prototypes – a landing page, an analysis script, an API integration – Manus is surprisingly competent. The code isn't always production-ready, but it's a solid starting point.

    ✅ Data Preparation

Cleaning, transforming, and visualizing CSV files – Manus handles this reliably and significantly faster than manual work in Excel.

    Where Manus Hits Its Limits

    ❌ Reliability on Long Tasks

The more complex the task, the higher the error rate. Manus sometimes loses track during multi-step processes, repeats steps, or delivers incomplete results.

    ❌ Hallucinations with Facts

Like all LLM-based systems, Manus occasionally invents data – especially with pricing, statistics, and quotes. Every result needs to be fact-checked.

    ❌ No Real Enterprise Security

Manus is not (yet) SOC 2 or GDPR certified. For sensitive business data, that's a dealbreaker. The Meta acquisition could bring long-term improvements – but caution is warranted right now.

    ❌ Unpredictable Credit Consumption

You don't know beforehand how many credits a task will consume. This makes cost planning difficult, especially for teams.

When Manus Is the Right Choice

    • You need autonomous research tasks without constant steering
    • You want to quickly create prototypes and scripts
    • You work as a solopreneur or freelancer and need a "digital intern"

    When You Should Pick Alternatives

    • Enterprise compliance is required → Lindy or monday AI
    • You need deep integration with existing tools → monday AI + Make/n8n
    • You want full control over model and data → Self-hosted solutions (NanoClaw, memU)

Our Take: Impressive, But Not an Autopilot

Manus AI impressively demonstrates where AI agents are heading. The autonomy is real – and for certain tasks like research, prototyping, and data analysis, it's already productively usable today.

But: Manus is not a replacement for well-designed automation workflows. For recurring, business-critical processes, structured solutions like monday.com Automations combined with middleware platforms like Make or n8n are the better choice – more reliable, more traceable, and GDPR-compliant.

Manus is the impressive intern who can do surprisingly much – but you should still look over their shoulder.
