Serponado – the 2026 SEO Contest Explained
TL;DR: „Serponado is the contest keyword of the 2026 Seobility SEO competition (June 9–30). We're in, we're documenting the strategy in public, and we're showing what actually ranks in 2026: authority, freshness, and link velocity – not keyword stuffing."
— Till FreitagSerponado – a word that didn't exist before today
Serponado is a made-up word. It did not exist before June 9, 2026. This morning at 10:00 CET, Seobility and Agenturtipp.de declared it the official keyword of their three-week 2026 SEO Contest – kicking off a race that hundreds of German-speaking SEO teams, agencies and solopreneurs are joining.
At AI First Builders we're in. And we're doing something most participants won't: we're publishing the strategy openly, day by day – what works, what flops, and what it all says about the state of SEO in 2026.
What does Serponado mean?
Officially: nothing. That's the whole point of fantasy keywords in SEO contests – no search intent, no ranking history, no commercial baggage. The playing field is perfectly level on day 1.
Unofficially (our reading): Serponado = SERP + Tornado. A storm tearing through the search results, throwing everything into the air. For three weeks, google.de revolves around one nonsense word. Fitting metaphor for a contest where new pages appear every day, old ones crash, and the top 10 reshuffles overnight.
The contest in 30 seconds
- Dates: June 9 – June 30, 2026 (three weeks)
- Keyword: Serponado
- Goal: rank as high as possible on google.de
- Hosts: Seobility & Agenturtipp.de
- Sponsors: Keyword.com, Leadreader, SEO-Day, Performanceliebe, BVDW
- Prizes: top 10 (details at contest.seobility.net)
The SERP everything revolves around: google.de for the keyword "serponado". (Illustration – the live SERP changes hourly during the contest.)
How does the contest work? Step by step
For anyone who's never entered an SEO contest: the format is surprisingly simple – and exactly that's what makes it brutal.
- Keyword reveal (day 0): Seobility & Agenturtipp.de announce the contest word. Nobody knows it beforehand. Pre-optimisation is impossible.
- Open start (day 1): From 10:00 CET anyone may publish. Domain, language, format – all allowed, as long as Google's guidelines are respected.
- Three weeks of live ranking: google.de becomes the stage. Positions shift daily, sometimes hourly. Tools like Sistrix or Seobuddha track the top 10 in near real time.
- Measurement (day 21): On June 30, at the official time, only one number matters: which URL sits where for "serponado"?
- Results & prizes: Hosts announce the top 10. Prizes from the sponsors, plus reputation in the German SEO bubble.
What makes this contest special: no jury, no panel, no question of taste. A page either ranks or it doesn't. Harder than any award show.
Why Serponado is more interesting than any "real" ranking test
SEO contests are a small tradition among practitioners. Schniedelwutz, Hijackthat, Hossa – every few years the German SEO scene invents a new nonsense word to test what still actually works. The real value isn't winning, it's the controlled experiment:
- No confounding variables from existing rankings
- Identical starting conditions for everyone
- One hard, publicly observable metric (position on google.de)
- Three weeks of time-lapse for things that usually take months
Serponado is a live lab for the question of what really drives modern SEO in 2026 – beyond LinkedIn opinions.
Our thesis: what ranks in 2026
Ten years ago, a fantasy keyword meant one thing: keyword stuffing. Put the word on a page 100 times, sprinkle in some exact-match-domain spam links, done. In 2026 that's a one-way ticket into Google's spam filter.
We're betting on three levers, in order:
1. Authority – the domain hosting the page
A new serponado-wins.com domain has no chance against an established site with three years of trust, hundreds of indexed pages and real traffic. So this page lives on till-freitag.com – with proper internal linking, clean schema, fast SSG delivery, Lighthouse 95+.
Fun fact: We originally planned to host on aifb.de – "AI First Builders", cooler name, faster indexing. Didn't work out in the end, so we moved everything to Till's personal domain. Small fuckup, but human. And hey, we're documenting that openly too.
2. Freshness – something new every day
Google loves moving pages. We update this pillar daily (see the journal below), publish supporting articles and bump dateModified along the way. In a three-week sprint, freshness beats almost any static top-tier optimization.
3. Link velocity – many signals in short time
Backlinks remain the hardest ranking signal. But in a contest window what counts is speed of acquisition: 30 domains in 7 days beat 100 domains in 12 months. Our mix:
- Own properties (social, GitHub, subdomains, friendly sites)
- Real value-add contributions in SEO communities (not spam)
- LinkedIn reach of the founder team
- Classic PR via openPR and industry newsletters
- Mentions in podcasts and YouTube videos
What we won't do: PBNs, paid links, AI-generated wall-of-text, exact-match domains. Worst case it disqualifies the page – and long-term it kills the real domain.
Detailed tactics: Our strategy article "How to Rank Serponado – Strategy Documented in Public" explains all three levers in detail – including link velocity table, cluster plan, and first 48-hour learnings.
A look at the competition: serponado.io
Not every contestant relies on an established domain. One of the conceptually strongest projects is serponado.io – a fresh domain with an elaborate vibe-coding story built around a JARVIS persona. We analysed it in detail: serponado.io & Felix Grote – vibe coding in the SEO contest. Interesting because it tests the exact counter-thesis to our authority-first approach.

FAQ: Serponado in short
What is Serponado?
Serponado is a fantasy keyword. It is the official contest word of the Seobility & Agenturtipp.de SEO Contest 2026, running June 9–30, 2026.
Does Serponado mean anything?
No. It is a made-up word, deliberately invented so that nobody already ranks for it. Our reading: SERP + Tornado.
When does the Serponado contest run?
From June 9, 2026 (start: 10:00 CET) until June 30, 2026. Three-week window, after which the final ranking position on google.de is measured.
Who runs the Serponado contest?
Hosts are Seobility (an SEO tool from Pforzheim, Germany) and Agenturtipp.de (an agency directory for the DACH region). Sponsors include Keyword.com, Leadreader, SEO-Day, Performanceliebe and the BVDW.
Who can join the Serponado contest?
Anyone who can run and optimize a website. Registration goes directly through contest.seobility.net.
How do you win?
Whoever ranks highest on google.de for "Serponado" at the official measurement on June 30, 2026 wins. The top 10 receive prizes from the sponsors.
Which strategy works in a 2026 SEO contest?
Authority (use an established domain), freshness (update daily), link velocity (many clean backlinks in short time). Keyword stuffing, PBNs and pure AI content no longer work.
Why are you publishing your strategy openly?
Because it costs nothing and pays back twice. The documentation itself is link bait, it forces us into discipline, and it's genuinely useful content for the SEO community – which is exactly why people link to it.
Where can I follow how you're doing live?
Right here. We update the journal daily and publish a full post-mortem at the end.
